In Spain there are many people who make a living serenading with music just like any other European city. It is one way to take care of yourself. Aimee caught this moment on film as she was touched by this man's desire to play beautifully for her.
You will not see any photos here of the women of Morocco or the missionaries here that we ministered to with the love of the Lord, because that would place them in serious danger. I cannot even list the name of the city that we visited. I do have photos of Spain and as you will see, the inner city poor that we ministered to as we did the women in Morocco.
Our journey to Spain in 2004 was to be a part of a jewelry project specifically that was designed to help women in Morocco. We began our journey in Madrid Spain. When we arrived we were met with hugs and a complete 2-day training of "Things Spanish" as well as the history of the two countries and cultural details of great importance.
I will never forget this trip! These women and I were devoted to the task of making new friends and using our talents to help release the women to new skills that would help them support themselves and their families.
We arrived in Madrid shortly after the train station bombings which turned the results of the elections and took the Spanish military out of the War in Iraq. There are several Christian churches in this city that is dominated by the Catholic church.
We enjoyed our trip back from Morocco visiting with some of the funniest creatures God has created. I never knew that apes had the run of any territory that is civilized as they do in Jungle Book. This was a great day to return to Spain and we were greeted by these little guys in great number.
Gibraltar is the only one of its kind, British territory, in Spain. It is an island and there is one road up to the top. We scaled it to reach Enrique pictured here by Aimee.
Then Aimee turned and snapped a photo opportunity of me 'Going Ape'.
I needed a massage from wearing my hat so much and then I thought maybe this little guy will keep me warm. It's just not my color and boy did it ever feel strange :-)
Enrique went about his business but not until we learned from our guide that there is a main ape who has to keep his position among the apes by fighting off the other male apes that try to take his position. What a job! "I enjoy being a girl!"
Okay ...so it was cold! Not just cold...It was so cold that my tears from the cold didn't make it down my cheeks without turning to ice. Well maybe not that cold...but COLD!
Several times a month friends go over to this side of town to teach these children, and spend time with them having fun. This all began when 4 young girls shared that they had a heart for reaching these kids. Several of them are from Muslim families. Most of them have only a mom and no father living with them. They are allowed to participate because the children have fun as treats are served to them (even the tables have to be brought in the car), they learn things that are fun to learn and they get to play soccer at the end.
Here we are explaining to the children who live in these high-rises in the background, how to begin making their jewelry. Necklaces and bracelets or 'Collars y pulseras'.
They learned very quickly.
The beauty of Spain is in the hearts of the people who live there. This little girl, like some of the other children, came outside to play on this very frigid day wearing very light clothing. We all took turns holding her in our laps as we did with the others. You can see some of the snacks on the table.
Little frozen fingers worked hard and perservered to make little functional objects of art.
Mohammed was completely intrigued at how all of this worked and came together. We were visited by a couple of passers by who wanted to know what we were doing.
A friend has a dream to build a youth ministry center in this area so that this outreach can be moved from the street to a safer and warmer space.
Mohammed, like the others, is a fascinating child. He is very smart and really wanted to learn...and learn.... and then....
PLAY TIME!!!!! Let's play futbol!
