This is where it all started. You can go Return to India 2009' page to see photos and read updates on our most recent return to India...This is India 2008...
...And it is exciting to know that we are going there for another great visit this October/November 2011!
In 2008 and 2009, I accompanied my husband to India to visit our friends there who have been building an orphanage for the many homeless children, and then on to Nepal to visit our friends there who provide for women and their children and teach them skills that they can use to support themselves honorably in their society.
My mind gained a greater understanding of what it is like to live in India and Nepal... It is not easy. My heart grew to add more people to my list of loved ones and I am so excited to be able to return to visit them once again this October and November 2011.
Also please continue to pray for DC Kaushal whose desire it is to see this children's home filled to capacity with healthy children and loving and attentive guardians. This is a huge undertaking and this year there was a slight setback as DC fought for his life over an illness. Mercifully, God has seen fit to heal him and he will be with us once again as we visit.
I have included on this site the photos of only those that it is safe to include. If you would like to contribute to the construction of the Living Hope Orphanage please email me at JoanHall@JoanHall.net. There has been great progress over the last 2 years and there are a few children now living in the orphanage!
- From left to right and top to bottom the photo is of our pastor friends and their wives in India when we visited them. Most of them traveled a long way to see us... Joan and a hotel doorman dressed in authentic Punjab garb in Agra... Joan, John and Subodh in front of the Taj Mahal.... And finally, my sweet friend, Subodh's wife Sakshi...
We have loved every minute...been used by God every minute...and we rejoice!!!
So we landed in India! Yes ...tired ...but happy and really well fed. My first impression of India was that I was in a place that I truly had no understanding of at all. All of my American/Mexican/Spanish/French or British references did not fit what I was seeing. So I resorted to my Morocco experience and that helped it all make much more sense. I looked out of the window and saw cars and vehicles of every description. I saw a lot of men dressed as if we had never left the time of Christ, and I had to look back and check to make sure we just got off of a jumbo airliner that brought us here.
Then I heard D C Kauschal calling my husband John from the door to the terminal. The locals have to wait outside and we were waiting inside so it was interesting to see D C calling for John at the door with his Indian shirt and cap. We made haste and soon were embracing this wonderful man of God who was hurrying us along to get into the car quickly. Enjoy these first photos of those days in India that brought us incredible joy and I cannot describe how the Lord used us except to say it was far more than I had EVER asked or imagined!!!
Pictures of India!!!
Great plans for an orphanage...We finally get to see the land in Amritsar where it will be built...
DC left early the next morning for Amritsar as he is seeing to the details of the land development for the orphanage. We were treated to a tour of the entire city by Subodh, Sakshi and little Katherine their daughter and then left at 4am the next morning (from the ministry center) and taken to the airport. We arrived in Amritsar very early in the morning to have a full day there with DC.
We began with a breakfast at our hotel and then went on to the meetings with the pastors and their wives.
You can click on the photos below if you would like to see a larger view... AND/OR if you hold your cursor over the photo a description of the photo will reveal itself.
They Love Visiting Us...Now We Together Get To Visit Them
DC Kauschal and his wife Sona, along with their son Subodh John and daughter-in-law Sakshi, head up a ministry called Living Hope in Punjab India. They train up leaders in ministry and they see to the needs of the children in their day to day school by clothing them, feeding them and praying for them as they teach them English and other skills. This a very precious couple and I have loved being with them here in the U.S.
These 2 people are the founders of a ministry that goes outside the box. They don't stop at getting on trains that can take a day to travel across India...DC doesn't stop because his feet are more than tired. They go because they are called to go. That is why we support them and we love them.
DC Kauschal is a very funny man. He handles business like a well trained corporate ambassador, but he has such a playful side as well. I remember one time in our home when DC and Sona were spending time as our guests, I came across a CD of Gregorian Chant and played it in the early morning hours as the house guests were coming to life again from a night of sleep and rest. The lilting monochromatic melodies surrounded my ears and I enjoyed the sweet sounds when all of a sudden descending the staircase was none other than DC singing along with the melodies. He was having such fun and John and I laughed with him as he lovingly taught us that he too knows Gregorian Chant. Needless to say, when they left, they left with a CD of Gregorian Chant in one of their suitcases.
There are always needs for the people we support and who have blessed us with their love of the Lord.
